HYPNOBIRTHING
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When should I start Hypnobirthing Classes?

Hypnobirthing is a technique that uses self-hypnosis, relaxation, and breathing techniques to help women have a more comfortable and positive childbirth experience. The optimal time to start hypnobirthing is usually around 25-30 weeks into the pregnancy.

Starting hypnobirthing at this time allows women enough time to learn and practice the techniques before their due date. It also allows them to fully integrate the techniques into their mindset and approach to childbirth.

Starting hypnobirthing earlier than 25 weeks may not be as effective, as women may not be as focused on the pregnancy and childbirth experience at this stage. Starting later than 30 weeks may also be challenging, as women may feel more anxious about their impending due date and have less time to learn and practice the techniques.

However, it's important to note that every woman's pregnancy and childbirth experience is unique, and some women may choose to start hypnobirthing earlier or later depending on their individual circumstances. It's always best to consult with a healthcare provider or a hypnobirthing practitioner to determine the best time to start hypnobirthing based on individual needs and circumstances.

Does Hypnobirthing speed up labour?

While there is no guarantee that hypnobirthing will speed up labor, some studies have shown that using hypnobirthing techniques can lead to shorter and more efficient labors. This may be because hypnobirthing can help reduce fear, anxiety, and tension during labor, which can help the body to relax and work more efficiently.

Hypnobirthing teaches women how to use self-hypnosis, relaxation, and breathing techniques to manage pain and stay calm during labor. By reducing the perception of pain and helping the body to relax, hypnobirthing can help women to conserve their energy and avoid unnecessary tension or resistance during labor. This can help the uterus to work more efficiently and shorten the duration of labor.

In addition, hypnobirthing can also help women to have a more positive and empowering childbirth experience. By reducing anxiety and fear, women are more likely to feel in control and confident during labor, which can help to reduce the likelihood of interventions and complications.

It's important to remember that every woman's pregnancy and childbirth experience is unique, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to labor and delivery.  But we will certainly help prepare you for all birth situations.

Can Hypnobirthing help prevent tearing?

While hypnobirthing cannot guarantee that you won't experience tearing during childbirth, it can help you to reduce the likelihood of tearing and improve your chances of having a more comfortable and positive birth experience.

Hypnobirthing teaches women how to relax and breathe through labor, which can help to reduce tension in the pelvic floor muscles and promote optimal positioning of the baby. This can help to reduce the likelihood of tearing or other perineal trauma during delivery.

In addition, hypnobirthing can help you to work with your body during labor, rather than against it. By reducing anxiety and fear and promoting relaxation, hypnobirthing can help you to conserve your energy and avoid unnecessary tension or resistance during labor, which can also help to reduce the likelihood of tearing.

It's important to note that tearing is a common occurrence during childbirth, and in some cases, it may be necessary to facilitate the safe delivery of the baby. However, by learning and practicing hypnobirthing techniques, you can improve your chances of having a more comfortable and positive birth experience and reduce the likelihood of tearing.

Can you have a Hypnobirth with an epidural?

Yes you can have an epidural and still have a hypnobirth! In fact, I believe that hypnobirthing techniques are even more important during a medicalised birth. Generally a birth that involves an epidural is longer and more likely to need interventions like ventouse, forceps or a c-section.

This is because if an epidural stops you from feeling contractions, your body doesn’t realise it’s in labour and then stops producing the hormones needed for labour to progress. This is why hypnobirthing is so important when having an epidural. Hypnobirthing techniques are designed to boost your labour hormones, and hopefully speed the process up.
