Birth Partners Want to Help — They Just Need Tools By Donna, Antenatal Classes Auckland

Most birth partners walk into labour thinking one thing:
“Just tell me what to do.”
They want to help. They want to be there. They just don’t know how.
And no one really teaches them.
So they stand back. They hover. They wait for instructions.
Not because they don’t care —but because they’re scared of getting it wrong.
I see this in almost every antenatal class.
Strong, capable people who love their partner deeply…yet feel completely out of their depth when birth is mentioned.
And here’s the part that matters:
Birth doesn’t need a hero.It needs a teammate.
Someone who knows how to:
Stay calm when things feel intense
Create safety in the room
Help your body do what it already knows how to do
Not perfectly. Just confidently enough!!
Because when labour gets big, you go inward. You don’t want to teach. You don’t want to manage. You just want to feel held.
This is where preparation changes everything.
Not more information. Not more “what ifs.”
Just simple, practical tools that say: I’ve got you.
That’s what I give birth partners in my antenatal classes.
Not pressure. Not performance.
Just:
What’s normal
What actually helps
What to say when words are hard
So they can stop wondering and start showing up.
You don’t need a perfect birth partner.
You just need one who feels stay's beside you, and actually helps and knows what to do,
YOU DESERVE THAT!!
And that is something you can prepare for, join one of my antenatal classes in Auckland and lets get ready for birth & baby!
